Yes, we’ve got panels and workshops with great journalists from 50 countries, but there’s lots more happening at GIJC13. Join us for our awards ceremony at the beautiful Theatro Municipal, our big Saturday night cocktail reception, Abraji’s special documentary exhibition, and a rockin’ blues party played by GIJN’s own band.

Don’t miss awards night at the extraordinary Theatro Municipal on Monday evening, October 14. There will be with music by virtuoso guitarist Moacyr Luz and the dynamic rhythms of AfroReggae. Then, after the session, join us for some late night fun at a no-host party at nearby Teatro Odisséia, where a blues bash will be played by GIJN’s own all-journalist R&B band, The Muckrakers.

Other Special Events

After our first day together, on Saturday, October 12, come meet your colleagues and network at a welcoming reception. Sponsored by the anti-corruption NGO Global Integrity, the 5:30 pm event takes place at our conference venue, the PUC campus, in an area known as pilotis.

Then on Sunday, there will be two autographs sessions with noted journalists. Award-winning Daniela Arbex will sign her new best-seller O Holocausto Brasileiro (The Brazilian Holocaust) on the shocking mistreatment at a psychiatric hospital in the 1950s and ’60s in Brazil. And Portuguese reporter Jose Manuel Diogo will sign his book, As Grandes Agências Secretas (The Great Secret Agencies), on the background and methods of the CIA, KGB, and Mossad.

On Monday, October 14, Abraji is showing the documentary “Historias de Arcanjo” (“Arcanjo Stories”), a film on the life of journalist Tim Lopes, directed by his son, Bruno Quintella. Lopes’ torturing and murder by drug dealers in a favela, while he was covering a story, led to the creation of Abraji in 2002. The film (subtitled in English) will be shown at Estacao Vivo (R. Marques de Sao Vicente, 52 – Gavea). Those interested in attending should be at the meeting point in the exposition area by 10:30 am.
